Welcome to a New Tap to Pay Experience

An easy and secure way to make purchases.

SAFE is pleased to offer tap to pay credit and debit cards. These cards provide an easy and secure way to make purchases.

SAFE members will start to receive new credit cards with the tap to pay technology starting in January 2024 and new debit cards starting in March 2024. They will be distributed in a phased approach and arrive via United States Postal Service.

Activate Your Card


New Card Number

  • Your debit and/or credit card has a new card number.
  • Be sure to update your card information wherever you have automatic payments, such as with streaming services, retailers, insurance providers, and utilities. Use our convenient checklist generator to be sure you don’t miss any bills.
  • SAFE will automatically update your card information within your digital wallet(s) within two business days of card activation. This automatic update is the easiest option, eliminating any additional security checks.
  • Any other card(s) associated with this account will be deactivated.
  • You will continue to have access to past purchase and payment information in Online Banking and the SAFE Mobile App.
  • Reset any travel or suppression settings in Online Banking and the SAFE Mobile App.
  • Rest easy! You will not need to reset account alerts.


New PINs for Debit Cards

  • Your former PIN will not carry over automatically to your new debit card. SAFE will separately mail you a temporary PIN to use until you set your own PIN through the card activation process.
  • For the best experience, activate your new debit card by calling 800-252-2273 and follow the prompts to set your PIN. You can then ignore the temporary one mailed to you.
  • Your PIN can be changed at any SAFE ATM. (Note: you must insert your debit card vs. use tap to pay to enable this change.) Additionally, you’ll need to know your current PIN number for this transaction.
  • You can also change your PIN in-branch with the help of a SAFE representative.


New Technology   tap-to-pay

Your new card features the latest tap to pay technology that lets you quickly and easily make purchases. Simply tap the chip area of the card on the payment terminal where and when prompted. You will quickly receive a confirmation that the payment has been processed.

As with your current chip card, a unique code will be generated for each transaction. These codes are virtually impossible to duplicate for fraudulent activity, giving you more peace of mind and confidence when using your card.


New Look

We redesigned all our cards to be vertical, which optimizes the tap to pay experience. We also changed the name of some of our credit cards to better reflect how they work for you.


New Name

Our credit cards still have all the great features you’ve come to love, from lower interest rates to travel and cash rewards. The new name will be featured on your statements and in Online Banking and Mobile App. Terms and conditions remain unchanged.

Activate your Credit Card

Once you have received your new card, activate through Online Banking, the Mobile App or call 800-252-2273.


Activate your Debit Card

Once you have received your new card, call 800-252-2273 to activate and set your PIN during the process.
