Throughout July and August, SAFE worked alongside the Northeastern California and Northern Nevada chapter of Make-A-Wish to
make a wish come true for a very special child.
SAFE set a goal to raise $5,000 so a local 7-year-old boy, who is battling medulloblastoma (a rare, fast-growing type of brain tumor), could go to Disney World and meet Lilo and Stitch. SAFE employees, friends, and family had two ways
to donate to this child’s wish fund:
- Join SAFE’s team, “SAFE Wishes,” and walk during the 17th Annual Walk for Wishes ,
which took place Aug. 13 at the Sacramento State Capitol building
- “Donate to a walker,” which allowed someone else to participate in the Walk for Wishes on the donor’s behalf
SAFE also worked with Make-A-Wish to find a creative and fun way to incentivize SAFE employee donations. SAFE employees had the opportunity to donate to the “Pie in the Face – Executive Challenge” after being divided into teams structured
under their executive leadership. The leaders whose teams collected the least amount of donations would receive a pie in the face.
When donations closed on Aug. 12, SAFE employees, friends, and family had collectively raised$17,670 for the child and Make-A-Wish – more than doubling fundraising efforts from $7,700 in 2015. Because SAFE employees, friends, and family
raised so much, Make-A-Wish was able to grant two wishes!
On Aug. 26, Make-A-Wish and SAFE employees came together for the Executive Challenge event at SAFE Corporate Headquarters in Folsom, Calif. The executive team members who received a pie in the face were VP, Wealth Management, Larry Braley and AVP, Regional
Sales, Maria Mengotti. The event was filled with laughter, aspiring stories, and whip-cream pie. As Executive Challenge attendees enjoyed celebratory pie, the child enjoyed one of his wished-for days at Disney World.
Since the Northeastern California and Northern Nevada chapter of Make-A-Wish opened in 2009, it has granted more than 5,600 wishes to children in the Greater Sacramento region. SAFE has been a proud and active Make-A-Wish sponsor since 2010.
