FOLSOM, Calif. – Sept. 18, 2017 – Today, SAFE Credit Union announced that its employees collectively raised nearly $20,000 for Make-A-Wish® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada. The funds will be used to grant the wishes of two young girls with life-threatening medical conditions:
- 5-year-old Gracie, who requested a trip to Disneyland to meet Mickey Mouse
- 16-year-old Jaci, who will meet her favorite musical artist, Shawn Mendes
Early fundraising efforts were directly tied to the Make-A-Wish Walk of Wishes, held last month in Sacramento. SAFE was the top fundraiser for this local event, with 10 SAFE employees participating in the Walk and another four volunteering as support staff.
More recently, SAFE held a half-day employee fair at its corporate headquarters. The event included a chili cook-off judged by Make-A-Wish Foundation and SAFE representatives, a cornhole tournament, and a popular executive dunk booth. Several AVPs and VPs, along with three C-level executives, happily took the cold-water plunge for a good cause. The effort paid off, with nearly $1,000 fundraised from pay-to-play activities – plus an additional $1000 matched by SAFE CEO and President Dave Roughton.
“Our executives are all great sports and more than happy to do whatever it takes to help bring some happiness to children battling devastating illnesses,” said Roughton. “I’m thrilled with our employee participation – both before, during, and after the Walk of Wishes – and that we were able to support an exceptionally worthy cause in such an impactful way.”
This fundraising effort is just one example of SAFE’s deep commitment to supporting its membership, and the communities it serves, through philanthropic and volunteer efforts – with an emphasis on organizations dedicated to heath care, education, and veteran affairs. SAFE is proud to support the mission of Make-A-Wish in granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
