FOLSOM, Calif. – (Nov. 21, 2018) – SAFE Credit Union is contributing in various ways to the Camp Fire relief efforts in Butte County, where several hundred of its members were affected by the devastating fire and evacuation.
Within days of the Camp Fire, SAFE reached out directly to its members from the Paradise area to offer bill-paying relief, no-cost and low-interest loans, as well as other financial emergency services.
SAFE extended its help to others in the community by donating $20,000 to the Sierra Central Credit Union Foundation/TLK Foundation’s Camp Fire Relief Effort.
It also sent dozens of volunteers to Butte County to provide hands-on assistance at shelters.
“As local institutions who care deeply and personally about our members, credit unions stand ready to assist our members and their neighbors in their time of need,” said SAFE Credit Union CEO Dave Roughton. “SAFE understands the challenges
our members and their neighbors are facing. We implemented a multi-pronged response that includes financial help for our members, a direct donation to the Paradise community, and having our employees volunteer their services.”
The Camp Fire broke out on Nov. 8 and has destroyed 14,500 structures, including 12,637 homes. Nearly 80 fatalities have been confirmed, and there are still about 700 people reported missing, as of Nov. 21.
