ICYMI: SAFE’s Commitment to Wellness in the Workplace Spotlighted on Studio40 Live

Folsom, Calif. – (July 16, 2024) – SAFE’s Chief Lending Officer Tiffani Vargas, who divides her time helping the credit union's employees improve their health, discussed SAFE’s approach to wellness in the workplace with the hosts of KTXL Fox 40 Monday on  “Studio40 Live.”

“SAFE is really passionate about promoting wellness for our employees,” Vargas explains to show hosts  Gary Gelfand  and  Scott Moak. “We really want our employees to embrace a consistent routine and make that deposit just like you do into a bank account and investing in what they need to do to feel good physically and mentally.”

Vargas became involved in SAFE’s wellness efforts nearly five years ago and chairs the credit union’s "Wellbeing" employee resource group. The group holds events, sponsors initiatives and provides wellness challenges to support the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of SAFE employees.

Vargas, also a professional workout instructor, leads free exercise classes at SAFE’s headquarters and reminded people how to incorporate wellness into their lives while on a budget.

“The average American spends $5,000 a year on wellness and not everybody can afford that, right,” she says, adding free workouts are available online and nature walks are highly beneficial to achieving wellness. “We don’t have to have a gym membership. We don’t need to own a Peloton. We don’t have to go to specialty food markets.”

Vargas encourages employees at other companies to be sure to check into what wellness opportunities they may not realize their employer already offers and encourages companies to sponsor athletic events and provide time for employee volunteerism to promote wellness, like at SAFE.

As referred to in the interview, The Sacramento Business Journal named SAFE as a “Best Place to Work” six years in a row between 2017and 2023.

Vargas joined SAFE in 2018 and became its CLO in 2022. She oversees nearly half of the credit union’s income centers. As a volunteer, she serves on the board of First Tee of Greater Sacramento, providers of positive youth development programs through the game of golf.
