SAFE Extends Assistance Options to Members Impacted by Southern California Fires

Folsom, Calif. (Jan. 16, 2025) – SAFE members impacted by the ongoing Southern California fires may qualify for several financial assistance programs offered by the credit union.

Payment assistance and loan hardship relief options include skip a pay programs, fee waivers, mortgage forbearance, and other loan and modification programs.

Among the programs available, SAFE Credit Union offers qualifying members options to temporarily reduce their monthly payments by 50 percent on vehicle, personal and share secured loans when experiencing a financial hardship.

Members impacted may also qualify for one of SAFE’s Quick Access Loans. The loans are available in amounts of $600 and $1,200 and are accessible through a  streamlined process to get funds quickly

SAFE, which primarily serves members in 13 Northern California counties, is being proactive in offering assistance to its members who live throughout the Golden State, explains SAFE Credit Union Chief Lending and Retail Banking Officer Tiffani Vargas.

“We’ve reached out to nearly 450 of our members who may have been impacted by the wildfires in Southern California to determine how we can help,” says Vargas. “Our thoughts are with our members and all those who have been impacted by the Los Angeles-area fires.”

A not-for-profit credit union, SAFE shares profits with its members through low interest loan rates and fees, and competitive dividends on savings.

“SAFE is proud to be able to help our members during this time of need,” Vargas says, adding the credit union regularly assesses how major emergencies may impact its members.

To take out a Quick Access Loan or to apply to use one of SAFE’s other payment relief programs, members must meet eligibility requirements to qualify. To qualify for a SAFE Quick Access Loan borrowers must be a member of SAFE for at least one month.
