Security Bulletin: Equifax Cybersecurity Breach

On Sept. 7, 2017, Equifax announced a large-scale cybersecurity breach that – per the company’s press release – may impact 143 million U.S. residents.

Per Equifax, cybercriminals exploited a vulnerability in its U.S. web application to gain access to consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in select instances, driver’s license and credit card numbers.

As a proactive precaution to protect your accounts, SAFE is expanding its identity verification process, meaning you may be asked additional questions when you contact our Call Center and/or chat online.

Equifax has provided a way to check if your data may be part of this compromise (accessible at this link ). Please be advised that Equifax is offering free identity theft protection and credit file monitoring to all U.S. consumers.
