Important Information About Your Account Security

SAFE Credit Union’s top priority is to ensure your accounts and personal information are secure. We appreciate the trust you put in us and we strive to provide the most up-to-date security measures.

SAFE recently experienced an issue where debit and credit card information may have been compromised during recent ATM transactions from October 1, 2022, through November 23, 2022, at 2105 Town Center Plaza, Suite F-100, West Sacramento, 95691.

If you used your debit or credit card at the West Sacramento branch ATM during that timeframe, here are some important assurances for you to know:

  • SAFE has proactively taken measures to secure your account.
  • We have added extra fraud detection and monitoring to your account. We will continue to provide that extra protection until the card expires or you request a new one.
  • You will not be liable for any unauthorized charges.

To obtain a new debit or credit card from SAFE

Since we have added additional levels of security to your current debit or credit card, you are not required to get a new card. However, if you would like a new card, here is how to request one. SAFE will waive card replacement fees for cards used at the above mentioned ATM.

  • Visit a branch and request a new one. In some cases, we can provide a new debit card that same day. We can order you a new credit card to be mailed directly to your address.
  • Online Banking: Log in to Online Banking to get started, select "Card Services," select "Card Lost/Stolen," and select the card you wish to report. Your card will be turned off immediately and a new card issued.
  • Mobile App: Log in to the SAFE Mobile App to get started, select "More," select "Card Lost/Stolen," and then select the card you wish to report. Your card will be turned off immediately and a new card issued.

Protect yourself from skimming devices

Skimming devices are devices that criminals put into ATMs or point of sale (POS) terminals that capture your information for thieves to use later. When using ATMs and point of sale devices, take a few extra steps before inserting your card to see whether a skimming device has been placed. If you suspect an ATM or POS has a skimming device on it, please alert the branch or business. You can learn more information and tips at www.fbi.gov.

  • Inspect ATMs, POS terminals, and other card users before using. Look for anything loose, crooked, damaged, or scratched. If you notice anything out of place or loose, do not insert your card.
  • Pull at the edges of the keypad before entering your PIN to be sure that a fake keypad has not been placed over the real one.
  • Cover the keypad when you enter your PIN to prevent cameras from recording your entry.
  • Use ATMs in a well-lit, indoor location. These are less vulnerable target.
  • Be especially alert for skimming devices in tourist areas and self-checkouts.
  • Contact your financial institution if the ATM doesn't return your card after you end or cancel a transaction.
  • At gas stations, consider paying inside or running your debit card as a credit card.
