For the fourth grant cycle this year, SAFE Credit Union invites our members and the public to vote to determine which nonprofit will receive a grant. The top vote-getter will receive a $20,000 grant by December 31, 2024. Voting is open to everyone! Voting is completely anonymous, and we won’t collect any information about you. Voting is open from 8 a.m. December 10, 2024, through 6 p.m. December 20, 2024.

AcademySTAY Logo

AcademySTAY

AcademySTAY empowers former foster youth ages 18-24 to make informed decisions about their futures by providing support, resources, and skills for independence. It creates a safe environment and offers housing, career counseling, college support, and essential services. By offering comprehensive life skills training, educational guidance, and connections to community resources, the program seeks to provide these young adults with a pathway to long-term success and self-sufficiency.

The grant funds would go toward AcademySTAY’s Life Skills Classes that provide courses on financial literacy, job readiness, conflict resolution, safe living practices, and more. These skills are taught through a structured curriculum over a 12- to 24-month period.

First Step Logo

First Step Communities

First Step Communities (FSC) operates housing programs for the city and county of Sacramento, offering interim housing and emergency shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness. With nearly a decade of experience, FSC has provided safe, temporary housing for thousands of residents. FSC’s approach combines housing with wrap-around services, including therapy, case management, employment support, and substance recovery support. These services not only aid residents in finding housing but also in sustaining it, which is key to long-term stability.


The grant funds would go toward First Step’s Education and Workforce Program to provide access to certification-based education and workforce training that aligns with local workforce needs. Certificate programs include Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training, Forklift Operation Certification, a Phlebotomy Certification, and a Guard Card Certification.

Women’s Empowerment Logo

Women’s Empowerment

Women’s Empowerment provides programs to educate and empower women experiencing homelessness with the skills and confidence necessary to secure a job, create a healthy lifestyle, and regain a home for themselves and their children. Women’s Empowerment provides women with job-readiness skills, emotional support, case management and assistance through transportation, childcare and more, with the goal that women will form a sisterhood of support designed to foster self-discovery and confidence, build self-worth and seize opportunities

The grant funds would go toward expanding access to Women’s Empowerment’s Housing Readiness, Transitional Workforce Housing and Financial Empowerment programs that provide basic services, safe housing, a job training program and job placement assistance.
